Why G2 Reviews Are Typically Hard to Get

You know G2 reviews matter. Your buyers are researching you there before they ever talk to sales. But getting reviews feels like pulling teeth. Here's why:

1

You don't know who to ask

No visibility into which customers are actually happy enough to leave a positive review.

2

You have to chase CS and Sales for nominations

"Who's happy right now?" gets you the same 5 names. Or no response at all.

3

Customers are busy

They agree to leave a review, then... nothing. Life gets in the way.

4

Writing from scratch is hard

They open G2, see 10 questions, and abandon it. "I'll do it later."

5

Conversion rate crashes

You ask 50 people. 5 say yes. 1 actually submits. That's a 2% conversion rate.

The Core Problem

Every step in the traditional process has friction. The biggest friction: asking customers to write something from scratch. They don't know what to say. They don't have time to figure it out. So they don't do it.

What If You Did the Writing For Them?

Your customers have already told you—on calls, in emails, in Slack—exactly what they would write in a G2 review. The words exist. They're just trapped in your call recordings. This playbook shows you how to extract them, turn them into draft reviews, and hand them to customers ready to submit.

Why This Is Actually Easy

The traditional approach asks customers to do all the work. Our approach flips it: you do the work, they just approve.

TRADITIONAL APPROACH

  1. Ask CS for happy customers
  2. Email customers asking for review
  3. Customer opens G2
  4. Customer stares at blank form
  5. Customer abandons
  6. Follow up. Repeat. Give up.

NEW APPROACH

  1. Analyze calls → find champions
  2. Extract their actual words
  3. Generate draft review for them
  4. Send: "Here's a draft. Edit or submit."
  5. Customer tweaks 2 sentences
  6. Review submitted. Done.

The Method in Four Steps

1

Find Your Champions

Analyze call recordings to identify customers who've expressed genuine enthusiasm.

2

Extract Their Words

Pull out specific results, praise, and outcomes they've already shared.

3

Generate Draft Reviews

Use their own words to pre-fill answers to G2's review questions.

4

Send With Easy Approval

CSM (or you, with CSM in CC) sends the draft. Customer reviews, edits, submits.

Why This Works

You're not asking customers to write. You're asking them to approve what they've already said. That's a 2-minute task, not a 15-minute chore.

Identify Who to Ask

First, you need to find out which customers are good candidates for a G2 review. Not everyone qualifies—you want people who've already expressed genuine enthusiasm on calls.

Gather Your Transcripts

Export transcripts from Gong, Chorus, Fireflies, or your recording tool. Focus on QBRs, check-ins, renewal calls, and expansion conversations.

Time range: For long-term customers (1+ year), pull at least 12 months. For newer customers, use whatever is available.

Single-Call Analysis Prompt

Run this prompt on each transcript to identify if the customer is a good G2 review candidate:

AI PROMPT: CHAMPION IDENTIFICATION
Analyze this customer call transcript to identify if this person is a good G2 review candidate. Evaluate: 1. OVERALL SENTIMENT - Classification: Very Positive / Positive / Neutral / Negative - Confidence level and reasoning 2. CHAMPION SIGNALS (look for these indicators) - Unsolicited praise or enthusiasm - Specific results or metrics they've achieved - Internal advocacy (sharing with other teams, presenting to leadership) - Mentions of recommending to peers or network 3. G2 REVIEW CANDIDATE SCORE - Score 1-10 (10 = perfect candidate) - Reasoning for score 4. KEY EVIDENCE (if score is 7+) - List 3-5 direct quotes that show their enthusiasm - Note any specific results or outcomes mentioned Only extract detailed quotes and content for candidates scoring 7+. For lower scores, just note the sentiment and move on. Format as clean markdown.

Run this on 20-30 calls. You're looking to identify your top 10-15 candidates. The next step will consolidate their content.

Rank Champions & Extract Review Content

Now take your top candidates (score 7+) and consolidate their content. This step does two things: ranks who to ask first, and extracts the specific content you'll use to generate their draft review.

AI PROMPT: CONSOLIDATE CHAMPION CONTENT FOR G2 REVIEWS
I have call analyses for several G2 review candidates. For each candidate, consolidate their content into a profile I can use to generate a draft G2 review. For each candidate, provide: ## [Name], [Title] at [Company] **G2 Readiness Score:** [X/10] **CONTENT FOR G2 REVIEW:** 1. Their Challenge (Before) What problem were they trying to solve? How did they describe it? [Use their exact words where possible] 2. Why They Chose Us What made them pick this product? What alternatives did they consider? [Quotes about the decision] 3. What They Love Which features or aspects do they praise? What works well for them? [Specific praise quotes] 4. Results & Outcomes What metrics or improvements have they mentioned? [Exact numbers and qualitative wins] 5. Best Quotes (ranked by strength) - "[Quote 1]" - why it's strong - "[Quote 2]" - why it's strong - "[Quote 3]" - why it's strong **OUTREACH NOTES:** - CSM name (if known) - Best time to ask (recent positive moment?) - Any personalization to include Only include candidates with enough content to generate a meaningful review.

This consolidated profile gives you everything needed to generate a draft G2 review in the next step.

Create Draft G2 Review Answers

Now use the customer's own words to pre-fill G2's review questions. This prompt includes the actual G2 review format so answers map directly to their form.

AI PROMPT: G2 REVIEW CONTENT GENERATION
Using the customer quotes and results below, generate draft answers for a G2 review. G2 REVIEW QUESTIONS TO ANSWER: 1. "What do you like best about [Product]?" Write 2-3 sentences using their actual praise and enthusiasm. 2. "What do you dislike about [Product]?" If they mentioned any friction, include it honestly. If not, use something minor and constructive like "The learning curve took a few weeks" or similar. 3. "What problems is [Product] solving and how is that benefiting you?" Focus on the before/after transformation. What was broken? What's better now? 4. "Recommendations to others considering [Product]" Write advice they might give to someone in their position evaluating the product. REQUIREMENTS: - Use the customer's actual language and phrasing wherever possible - Include specific metrics or results they mentioned - Keep answers authentic—don't over-polish or make them sound like marketing copy - Each answer should be 2-4 sentences - The tone should match how the customer actually speaks CUSTOMER QUOTES AND RESULTS: [Paste the key quotes and results from your consolidation here] OUTPUT FORMAT: Provide the answers in a format the customer can easily review and submit: --- **What do you like best about [Product]?** [Answer] **What do you dislike about [Product]?** [Answer] **What problems is [Product] solving and how is that benefiting you?** [Answer] **Recommendations to others considering [Product]:** [Answer] ---

Send the Draft Review

The request comes from the CSM (or you, with CSM in CC). Include the pre-written review so they can see it's a 2-minute task, not a 15-minute one.

Subject: Quick favor—drafted a G2 review for you

The Cadence

Set up a simple follow-up sequence:

Day 0 Initial email with draft review
Day 3 Gentle follow-up: "Just bumping this—takes 2 minutes!"
Day 7 Final nudge: "Last check—totally understand if you're too busy"
Conversion Rates

With pre-written content: 25-40% conversion. Without it: 2-5%. The difference is giving them something to react to, not something to create.
